Easter candy is some of the most polarizing holiday candy. People have so many strong opinions about Peeps, Cadbury Creme Eggs, jellybeans… I’m curious to know how you feel about all the popular Easter candies.
Would you rather throw Peeps into the toilet? Or have their newer “filled” and “dipped” varieties won you over? Or maybe you like the fact that they remind you of Harry Styles?
Are Cadbury Creme Eggs too sweet? Is the egg-shaped Reese’s really the best holiday-shaped Reese’s of all shaped Reese’s? And which jellybean brand is the best jellybean brand?
Let’s discuss!

I am so glad to see you say this! I, too, like licorice. I don't love it when black jellybeans are mixed in with fruit jellybeans, but I do like a lot other licorice candy, like licorice Dumle and those raspberry licorice chewy candies from Sweden.
I have! It's a little too strong for me, but my dad loves it. I have only had it once, though, from a Swedish candy store in NY. So maybe I will try another kind. I like licorice and I like salt, so there might be a salty licorice out there for me!
Real surprised no one has jumped in to defend their preferred jelly bean brand here. I'm gonna go ahead and say this: Brach's Speckled Jelly Bird Eggs > Jelly Belly.
I have no memory of Whopper eggs! I think I've only known the robin eggs with the candy shell. (Which I love.) How did I miss out on these? What era are they from??
They were around most of my life. I remember having them when I was younger. And they only vanished in the last five years I’d say. I’m bad at remembering with pandemic brain. But as I recall I was complaining to Nipper about it at least one season, maybe two.
Also, they came in a bag and a little milk carton and the milk carton ones were not the same. They were much smaller and more like real whoppers. Boring! The bag was the version to get. They were large oblongs with thicker chocolate. Just a very different ratio and texture experience. Plus you could suck on them and they’d fall apart differently. I dunno, they were a pleasant novelty!
I love the creme egg minis! I had forgotten about those. They're the perfect amount of filling to chocolate.
Weirdly the maple Russell Stover eggs are too sweet for me, but I love the marshmallow ones. (Probably just as sweet? Maybe it's the maybe flavor that makes it taste richer?)
I think so. Base marshmallow flavor is pretty approachable no matter how sweet. But yeah I dunno why I can’t get enough of them. I think it’s a lot of nostalgia in play there.

Cadbury Milk Chocolate Mini Eggs. No other Easter candy need apply. The most perfectly thin, crunchy shell and melt away chocolate is *chef’s kiss*. Although, I confess to actually enjoying the marshmallow pillows that are Peeps.
I'm 100% anti-Easter candy (and it's not just because I'm Jewish). I'm usually an equal-opportunity sugar fiend, but Peeps are basically lumps of colored foam (better for exploding in your microwave than for consuming) and Cadbury eggs are indeed way too sweet for my taste. Egg-shaped Reese's are legit but that's just because they're straight-up Reese's in a different shape! Very lazy Easter candy, IMO.
Hahaha, Peeps are foamy, you're right. I think they have gotten more so over the years? It's possible I just remember them from my childhood differently, but I think they've gotten away from the marshmallow texture and more foamy. (I still like them, ugh, I know.)
Now I want to know if they've changed the recipe like Cadbury Creme Eggs did!
See, that's what I mean, though! You love allll Easter Candy and PEEPS ARE TRASH! There's always one candy someone doesn't like in the Easter candy world.
Have you tried a toasted Peeps? I will make you a toasted peeps s'more. You will change your mind.
I am one of those weird people who LOVES black jellybeans! Dutch people understand the beauty of black licorice!

I don't know what Dumle is but now I want to find out! Have you had salt licorice? It's not for everyone... but worth a try!

Dumles are these great soft toffee candies. https://sockerbit.com/products/dumle-licorice
They have different flavors. There was a great peppermint one at Christmas last year.
Now I have to have these!

I very much miss whopper eggs. Not robin eggs, the version without the candy shell. I don’t like that part, it gives them a chalky, gritty texture.
Second place are Russell Stover Easter eggs in maple cream or strawberry cream. So sweet your teeth hurt, but they are tradition!
I like Cadbury cream egg minis, which are hard to find but do exist. Eating a whole, larger egg is a bit much for me in one go now.
OMG, ditto the whopper eggs, RIP.

Man, I can't remember. I definitely got robin eggs in my basket every year, but at some point I became aware of a superior egg haha
Haha! Now I wanna try them! I like robin eggs but I agree with Renee that the candy shell does give them a little bit of a chalkiness.

Honestly I think nostalgia is why I like Peeps. I don't know that I would like them if I first had them as an adult.

They are one of my very favorites. Have you had the dark chocolate ones? I love those even more!

love cadbury creme eggs, love the egg bubble gum this time of year too. EASTER CANDY IS ACTUALLY GREAT, except all peeps are trash.
