Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy — for November’s playlist, I have curated a collection of songs all about the food one is likely to find on a Thanksgiving table.
A few notes:
Instead of a song about turkey, I opted for the Siouxsie and the Banshees’ song “Carcass” because I am a vegetarian and I think it’s funny. Also, I went with “Carcass” over The Smiths’ “Meat Is Murder” because Morrissey is a chode.
The Beach Boys’ song “Vegetables” prominently features celery crunching that was allegedly “performed” by Paul McCartney. Neat!
There are several songs about mashed potatoes — or the dance move called the mashed potato, rather — and “Mashed Potato Time” by The Ronettes is a personal favorite. But for the purpose of this playlist, I really love how James Brown’s “(Do The) Mashed Potatoes” goes with Dee Dee Sharp’s “Gravy (For My Mashed Potatoes).”
