Christmas candy is some of the very best holiday candy, perhaps only second to Halloween. And tied with Easter. Valentine’s Day is pretty great too, actually… Whatever. Christmas candy is my favorite, for now, so for December’s playlist, I’ve compiled a list of songs all about some of Christmas’s best treats — marshmallows and hot chocolate, candy canes, cookies, and more.
Kicking things off is “Marshmallow World” and while I adore Darlene Love’s version, I decided to go with The Regrettes’s 2016 cover for a little more rock ‘n’ vibe and to maybe introduce you to The Regrettes, a band you absolutely should be listening to.
The newest addition to the sweet Christmas candy song catalog — as far as I’m aware, anyway — is “Sally Sweet Tooth” from Minneapolis indie rockers Bad Bad Hats.
The band’s singer Kerry Alexander writes on Bandcamp, “I was struck by how many great characters there are in the Christmas canon: Rudolph, Frosty, a run-over Grandma. So I wanted to add a new character to the mix. She's a little sweet, she's a little sassy. She's Sally Sweet Tooth. And you'd be wise to give her your cookies.”
